found on road dead

that's what dad say's.....e-150 van..302 efi 1986 starts well and runs ok even with 180,000 miles under it's belt..however, lately, it's trying to stall alot once it warms up...won't idle right and I must gas it to keep it running...I had a code 31 egr and cleaned passage...don't know how to further check it..also had a code 83....any ideas will be welcomed...

has the TFI Module ever been replaced? It does have one. These cause all sorts of problems with starting/spark plug firing. Do you know the last time it was replaced?

Sounds like your EGR is sticking open. Take care of that 83 code & you should be good to go.

83 is "EGR control solenoid-open circuit failure" Check the wiring to the control solenoid or the solenoid might be shot. Do you have a Haynes manual?

A Haynes probably wont tell you anything that your Chiltons doe'nt. One manual that has saved me a lot of time and money is the "electrical & vacuum trouble shooting manual" from www.helminc.com When it comes to fixing electrical probs on my 95 Taurus/87 Ranger these manuals are great. Sometimes just looking at a wiring diagram is all it takes to fix an electrical problem.
It would sure be nice if we could go back to the simpler times & cars of the fifties, like your 57 Chevy. Gotta love this simple solution to most of the worlds problems that I saw on a roadside billboard: "Please spay & neuter your pets AND your stupid friends & relatives." Good luck with your EGR.

I always thought it stood for Fix Or Repair Daily.

going down the road yesterday the engine died. then restarted again..and ran fine ...then later did the same...I get a code 83 which I can't figure out..one book says it's the low pressure fuel pump...could a bad relay be causing this?...I have a new filter on the fuel line...where is the fuze for the fuel pump?...how much is a new fuel pump?...how can I win the lottery?...will I ever be?
