95' explorer 4x4 question

Hi sandijosh,
funny you should post about that. I have been trying to figure out what is right or wrong on mine for a while. I do know one thing for sure....the front axles between the front wheels will definately rotate as they are in direct contact with the front hubs. Not like the older ones with auto or manual hubs.
Now, for the other shaft, that is the question? On my 1995 it seems that some days that shaft between the transfer case and front diff will spin freely and other times it will be under torque..all this in 2wd.
I have contacted several dealers and talked to many people on different sites about this..If I ask 100 people the same question I get 50 that say it spins and 50 that say it does not!
To my way of thinking I personally think that when your dash switch is in 2wd, your front vacuum solenoid will have the front axles disconnected and also there will be no power to the transfer case clutch.
I know that if I was to go outside right now and crawl under the truck and grab that front shaft in front of the transfer case I would not be able to spin it...and I do not believe that should be like that...if anyone knows better please let us know.
And Sandijosh,,,,please check yours and let me know.
