Talking undecided

Hi:

I'm undecided. I've bought a new 1993 F150 2WD and it has served me well for the past 11 years.....154,000 miles and still runs like new. However, I have moved a little further north and think I will need 4WD by winter. I'm undecided.........a new f150 or f250?? Any opinions thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Also, what do you think my F150 is worth? Runs good, no body rust, but I know is worth nothing on a trade in.

Thanks.

I was too

I debated the same thing for a month. My buddy has a 03 f-250 super crew and I loved it. I was shopping for a 250 and then I took a new 150 home overnight for a test drive. Now I own a 04 f-150 lariat supercrew and my buddy wants to trade his 250 for a 150. If you haven't needed a 250 for 11 years you probably don't now (just a guess). The 150 is smoother and more refined, even off road I think. As long as it is a Ford you can't go wrong either way Good luck!

i say it depends on what kind of moteor you want if you want gas definitly go with the f150 if you want diesel you obviosly have to go with the 250, i do really love how the 150 drives but i dont got no dough to shell out on a new truck, oh just another point the 250 has manual locking hub whereas the 150's are auto and when its cold you dont wanna be out there switching hubs

Red face

I test drove the F250 supecab gas engine last week. It was nice, alot higher than my F150. I've yet to test drive the F150, I want the supercab, not the crewcab. What I liked about the F250 was the fact that the back seat had plenty of room, (my wife sat back there while I drove and the salesman was in the passenger front seat) She said she had plenty of leg room. I don't know how much room there is in back of the F150 unless I get the crew.

AS far as ride, the F250 seemed a little more bouncy than my 11 year old truck, but had more power, and was really sharp looking (blue with grey trim by the runningboards) Decisions decisions, definitely getting a Ford, just not sure which one. Never needed the towing/hauling capacity of the F250, but I think they are stronger built than the new F150's. Any of the F250's come with hubs you don't have to lock? That seems behind the times a little bit.

Thanks for your comments. Keep em coming.

Here's the decision you need to make: 2004 F1250 Fx4 SCab Black/Black. You cannot go wrong! ALTHOUGH - the new F250 Harley is SWEET!

Keep in mind, if you live up north and drive a diesel, you have to heat the engine block before you start it.... So, even though the F250's are sweet, they do have a few disadvantages

Wink

I went and checked out the F150's today as well...dealership was closed so I couldn't test drive........but they are really sharp looking.....

As far as engines, I'm definitely getting a gas engine, we live in a condo and there's nowhere for me to plug in a diesel in the winter.........I'm split now......1/2 of me wants the F-250, the other wants the F150. Either way I win. I think Ford is offering more of deal here in Connecticut for the F250's.

Guess I'll just have to flip a coin...anyone think the 4.6L V8 is strong enough? I've had the I-6 4.9 and never had any problems with it, from what I saw today the F250's all came with the 5.4 V8, about $34,000. The F150's 4x4 with the 4.6 were about $29,000, with the bigger engine they were about $34,000. It seems to me you get more bang for your buck with the F250, anyone agree??? disagree? I'm all confused, guess I'll just flip a coin........as long as I'm not drivin a Chevy I'll be Happy.........

Why not wait another month for the '05 F150. There should be several improvements from the first year of the new F150. The only thing I have a problem with on the '05 is a thread I was reading about some cost cutting changes they are making with sound proofing etc.

As for 150 or 250

get the 150 lariat 4x4 and drive it around for the next 11 years. Talk about an awesome and comfortable ride. This truck seems to have it all.

The 250 is a rougher riding truck. There isn't much of anything 'Rough" about the 150.

I am willing to bet that when you actually test drive the 150, the decision will become an easy one.

As for the prices, you should be able to get either a F150 or F250 for invoice or just below invoice. My truck was msrp of 35,790 and I paid 28k even.

Good luck and make sure to let us know what you decided.

The F150's 4x4 with the 4.6 were about $29,000, with the bigger engine they were about $34,000.
The 5.4L engine should only be an $800 option unless you have to move up to the XLT from the STX to get it. Were you looking at the STX model 4x4 for $29K? I have an 04 XLT with the 5.4L 4x4 Scab w/ 5.5' bed and got it for $30K out the door but then again the only options I had were the tow package, 5.4L engine and the P255 tires (also took fianacing deal instead of the rebate so it would have been even less). I can say that the F150 is a great truck, I havn't driven an F250 in a long time so I can't comment. If you can find an 04 on the lot that fits your criteria go ahead and get it, rebates will be better than on the 05. If you can't find the one you want wait for the 05 and order your truck exactly! Either way you win, this is a great truck. Good luck! Always negotiate from invoice not MSRP.

I believe the F150's 5.4 (300) has more HP than the F250's 5.4 (260) and also more torque according to ford.com. You will probably ger better mileage also. I have driven both the super duty and the new F150 and if you dont need the load capacity go with the F150. Unless you want the diesel.

everyone,

Thanks for the info...it put things into perspective. The more I think about it, an F150 makes sense. I'm not a contractor, so I don't need the xtra hauling/towing capacity of the F250, and really don't want a diesel.

I'll wait till August and try and cut a deal on a 04 F150, most likely XLT 5.4 L 4x4. All opinions greatly appreciated.......and like I said before, as long as it's a Ford I cant go wrong anyway.
