The casting number 352 should be on the drivers side, front. The date code should be found under the oil filter adapter, on the block.

Well the casting number is usually on the passenger side of the block towards the front, but then again some 390 dont have any numbers on them period, ask ratsmoker about that i beleive he delt with one like that. If it is a casting number though just remember some casting numbers were the same for 390's 428's 352's etc.

The 352 mark was on all FE's (352-360-390-428-429) Not sure of the 427 as I have never seen one. I could be wrong. Some 390 GT's had "GT" cast into the block, but I have never seen one. It will be both on the front drivers side and on the rear passenger side. The only way to tell for sure is to pull the pan and check the crank or measure the stroke with a dowel rod. Right?

If the engine is all together, measure the stroke. It should come out to 3 3/4 for a 390, 3.5 for 352/360 & near 4" for 410/428.
If you have just the block, the bore should be 4.050 for 390/360/410, 4" for 352 & 4.130 for 428.
Casting #s are the last point of issue.
AL.
