i just replaced the oil pan gasket and this wasnt the problem i thought it was. i now notice oil coming from the inspection plate cover where their seems to be another gasket where the oilpans two rear bolts are. does anyone know what this gasket is, i cheked my hayes manual but cant seem to find anything.thanks in advance
Are you talking about the rear main bearing seal?? I would think 11-87 would have the one piece seal- thought they did away with 2 piece seal in mid 82.Also rear seal on lower intake manifold will let oil leak and run down bellhousing a collect in bellhousing at inspect cover. If you have to replace this- DON'T USE CORK GASKET AT FRONT AND REAR lower intake- clean -tap top off block(were cork would have gone) with sharp point punch numerous time roughing area, apply a good bead of silicon rubber and glue gaskets on heads with weatherstrip glue (gorella snot) GOOD LUCK!!!
If you are still having trouble finding the leak I would clean the engine. I do this by spraying it with Engine Bright degreaser, let the engine cool, spay it on, let it settle for about 5 minutes then take the garden hose and spray it off. If you have access to a pressure washer and a hot water connection it works even better. Once it is all clean and dry take it for a drive and re-inspect. I sispect it is the main bearing seal. good luck.
i ofund that the oil i am getting is coming from just above the starter but i cant imagine what would be above that which would cause oil to run down and collect on the bottom of the inspection plate.i was told that if it was the rear main seal that oil would drip out of that weep hole at the botttom of the housing. by the way i have a 1989 bronco with the 5.0 and automatic trnny.
Above the starter is not real helpfull. Try cleaning the are and finding the precise location of where the oil is leaking and posting the results. Others will likely be able to give you better advise if you can give this information.
yes i pulled the pcv and stuck my finger over it and she sucked pretty hard, i also noticed that when i covered thepcv the engine never missed a beat. i thought it would stall if i did this but she kept running with no differnce in idle speed.
