I need to get a new one and I want to do it myself, it this a difficult task? What are some of the things I have to do to replace it?

 

Probobly the easiest heater core to replace. All you have to do is remove the heater hoses that go into the heater core. Then, remove the glove box door and about 8 screws that hold the heater box cover on, "located behind glovebox", After you get the cover off you can pull the heater core out from the inside.

 

what am I looking at $$$ wise for a new core then?

 

I think I only paid $15 or $20 for a new core for my truck and it is very easy to change.

I changed the one in my 1990 F-150 last year and it takes less than an hour, it's real easy to do, just follow the instruction in the above post.
