I have a 3.0 and recently cleaned the throttle body. I noticed the the valve only opens half way. And it does feel like my pedal needs to go to the floor more. I have heard of altering this to acheive a wot but don't know how? Anyone try this?
I not sure I understand. the flap opens 90 degs and that provides for the most air flow above and below the flap. Are you saying yours dosen' open 90 deg?
Dave
No, my butterfly valve did not open 90 degrees. It actually opened about 70 degrees. I read about the throttle cable mod AKA zip tie mod. You can put a zip tie on the throttle cable on your gas pedal to allow your valve to open further. There is a stop on the throttle body itself that allows the valve to not open more than 90 degrees. I did the mod and I was overwhelmed at the results. Feels like more top end HP. But, I know that is not it. The ole Danger Ranger 3.slow just can breath a little more now. I have read that some Rangers already come with the valve opening 90 degrees flat and some that just can't squeeze into the WOT margin. I guess my truck was one of these. I just wish I knew about this earlier.
Is there a post here somewhere that shows exactly what the 'throttle cable mod' is? I've noticed in my 98 4.0L there is a little slack when my foot first touches the pedal, and I'd like to fix it! Thanks!
