Tire suggestion

My Expy was in a T-Bone accident on Wednesday. I'll need at least one new tire, 3 more if they have flat spots from the spin/skid.

Does anyone have any suggestions for tires? I go off-road some, and on the beach. The stock tires work fine now. I don't really want All Terrains since they are known for throwing up stones at the truck. I don't want Bridgestone, Firestone, or Continental tires.

I'm looking at the Michelin Cross Terrain SUV, are they any good? They are only about $50 more than stock tires.

Do a search for tires in this forum, and you will find lots of info. I personally have the Revos, and couldn't be happier.

Can't go wrong with Michelins.

I've got 45K+ miles on my Dueler AT's and have been very pleased with them. I'll be in the market for new tires by the end of the year and will probably go with BFG AT's, just to mix it up a bit.

I went with revos, couldnt be happier. They are great off road, and just as quiet as the conticraps. Slightly stiffer, but it feels tighter.

Daveplot, may I suggest Uniroyal's, they are made by Michelin and are about $20 a tire cheaper. I get the same performance with mine as the Mich's. Hope your repairs go well, looks like you need a new rim also.

Just put a set of cooper discoverer ht's on, so far they seem like a good tire. They were $300 cheaper than michelin LTX MS.

I know you said no Bridestones but I have the REVO's, like MANY others, and absolutely LOVE them. They are great in the snow, on the beach, in the rain and on dry pavement as well. And quiet too.

My 2 cents.

I'm a big Nitto fan as well as the staple BFG's. It looks like in your situation though you don't need AT tires so a nice highway tire would be my choice. I have run Uniroyal Laredo AWP's in 2 of my work vans (1 ton and 3/4 ton) and they last forever (70,000+). They don't slip when the pavement's wet, they are quiet, they can handle a load and they are relatively inexpensive compared to Michelin. Good Luck!

I too use Cooper Discoverer AT's, changed those horrendously accident prone Continental's. I know can do cornering so easily and these are definitely more comfortable tires for the ride.

If you have your mind set on the Michelin brand, go for the LTX M/S, more durable and cheaper than the Cross Terrains. Have used both on my 1999. Now I have Revos.

daveplot,

Stay away from the Yokohama Geolanders. I bought them recently based on feedback on tirerack.com and other forums. At first they were decent, but I'm having trouble keeping them vibration-free after putting 100's of miles on them. I also noticed that they took a lot of weight to balance them, even after numerous attempts with a road force balancing machine.

I've learned my lesson - I'll be getting the Michellin LTX M/S next time ...

Have Cross Trerrains on my 2003 Explorer and they are great all around tire. Fairly quiet, excellent in snow and rain. Had to replace Michelin LTX M/S on my 2000 Expy and put a set of Cross Terrains on it. They are great tires, LTX is good too, but winter handling has been better with the Cross Terrains. If you have Costco near you check there, prices will be the best compared to other stores.

TIRE UPDATE After driving two weeks on Cooper discoverer ht's, I am switching back to Michelin LTX M/S. My wore out Michelins actually handled better than the new Coopers. The Coopers actually rode ok and traction seemed fine but the Coopers seemed to give the Expy too much body roll and they had a pull to one side. After driving Michelins on the last four vehicles, it's hard to go back to other brands. The tire store was nice enough to exchange with full credit towards the Michelins.
I'm happy now.
