"Roar" at 80mph

I have a 2003 Ranger Edge with a 6 cylinder automatic. When I am on the turnpike and get up to 80 mph, my engine starts to roar. I have heard that they are supposed to shut down passed 80. Is this roar a indicator that it is going to shut down or is something wrong with my motor?

Never heard of a 'shut down' piont, heard about limiters for speed/rpm. No idea what it could be, I've had my 2.3l '94 up to 90 with no noticible engine complaints.

Could it be a window seal, the antena. made the fan shoud catching more air than it is supposed to? Just a couple of thoughts.

Is their a noticable change in performance???

Maybe an out of balance tire? And the "shut down point" isn't till 97 mph on mine. But it gives no warning, you hit 97 and it feels like the engine shuts off. ( i thought i blew it up the first time)

roar? make sure the clutch fan is not stuck. with the engine off, spin the fan. It should spin with some resistance. the resistance will go up if the engine is hot.
