It's on an article about the classic struggle between motorists and hikers, etc on public lands.

ho, I agree that I dont want to loose any rights, but you need to read the whole article to understand whats going on. There are way too many people out there that feel they can blaze their own trails anywhere they like, not good! If everyone would stay on the existing trails and honor private property there wouldent be this problem. I think what everyone needs to do is to let people know out in the woods when they are doing stuff that they shouldent. We have property up in the Sierras out here in CA and it gets very old having to ask guys in their quads not to go off trail, to stay off private property. We have people that camp and start camp fires directly under and all around signs that say no camping or campfires allowed. I cant tell you how scary it is to have 10-15 people camping out there, drinking and with a huge blazing campfire and I own a house just about a mile up the mountain that could be lost to others lack of caring.

Great, did you read the quote from the sierra club about erosion? Here in Idaho, when a hillside slumps from excess rain soaking it or whatever, it can put more dirt into a stream than 5,000 dirt bikes running for 12 years. One hillside slumped into the Snake river and it was estimated 70,000 cubic yards washed downstream. Better sue mother nature. Funny how they never mention stuff like that when talking sediment. Flash flooding is even worse. However, we all need to stay on trails or roads, and remind others that doing the same will preserve our rights to be out there. Tread lightly!

The enviromentalist whakos are also responsible for the huge forest fires out west. They don't allow hardly any logging and that sets the stage for some bad fires. As long as you arn't tresspassing you should be able to do whatever you damn well please.

They dont allow hardly any logging???? You have absolutly no idea what your talking about dude! The lumber companies clear cut here in the Sierras, it looks like a stinking desert or moon scape in some of these cuts for decades. SPI Lumber Company owns over 1 million acres of forest land in California alone, and that is just one lumber company.

I'm thankful that whackos that dont know the truth about what destroys everthing cant do whatever they please!

94f150, you need to get a grip, man. If a lumber co. owns the land, they can do what they please with it. Last time I checked, we are still living in the USA. I bet they re-plant it, and do erosion control work. It's in their own best interests to get re-growth and max return on their investment/holdings. I don't want to get into personal attacks, but do you live in a house made of wood? I'm willing to bet you do. Do you use paper after pooping? I'll bet on that, too. Don't go to the ' I have mine, but you can't have any now' area. I doesn't hold water. Everyone uses resources. We should all try to use as little as possible, but you know what happens when people are told they can't have any, when most do? REVOLUTION!

camo, did you read or understand ANY of my post based on riflemans comments? I'm dident say anything about it being bad to cut wood, now did I?

I responded to the comment that "They dont allow hardly any logging and that sets the stage for some bad fires" which is a totally incorrect statement, they log the Sierra Nevada mountains very heavily and therefore there isent a large amount of undergrowth, saplings, etc that would be improper forest management and lead to huge forest fires.

So, get a grip yourself dude and read what someone is talking about before you make up your own conclusions and climb down someones throat!

Sorry, 94f150, but rifleman is right. Lawsuits filed by environmental extremists do nothing but make lawyers wealthier, and forests less healthy. If logging isn't permitted, fuel loads increase, and the result is catastrophic fires. Most environmentalists would rather see trees burned than harvested for lumber products. Then, they bitch about how the forest service (is THAT and oxymoron, or what?) doesn't do anything to controll erosion resulting from no vegetation. If the tree huggers are so concerned, why don't they take the money they blow on lawsuits, and buy tree sprouts and go plant them? Because most of them are urban dwellers who jump on the enviro bandwagon without knowledge of what is really required to manage a forest. They go to a sierra club meeting and eat tofu and feel like they are saving the world, when they consume just as much resources and anyone else. On another note, CWB, aren't you calling the kettle just a little bit black?
