possible harm done?

Two weeks ago I had an oil change done on the '91 Grand Marquis. Went out tonight and checked the fluids and rest of the vehicles (as I do routinely at least once a week). When I popped the hood on the '91, I found the Automatic Transmission dipstick setting on top of the engine. It would have been lost had it not been caught between the seal and the hood.

Now, the car has only seen pavement, no gravel roads in the last two weeks. Should I be concerned about any junk getting down the tube into the transmission? Since it's been on the pavement I'm thinking that it shouldn't be such a big deal, but I just thought I would ask.

I seriously doubt anything is in there 'cept what ought to be. If the level is correct, then it's unlikely someone "added" anything to it. Thats a pretty small hole for misc. stuff to get into by accident, although its not entirely impossible.

i also doubt that anything got in it. However, might be an excuse to go ahead and change the fluid/filter if it has been awhile esp if it has been dry in your neck of the woods........dust/dirt can act like sand paper. How many miles did you put on it in the week and how dry/dusty was it in that time frame - would be my questions.

I don't think there's any harm done, unless you've had dust storms in Bismarck since the OC (no vaccuum, unlike the engine with PCV). Did it look like any fluid had been thrown out of the dipstick tube? I would certainly thank the manager of your OC establishment and tell him you won't be back - not that he probably cares.

any debris that went in the filler tube (if any) would be stopped by the screen in the tranny....however i like the rest doubt that anything made it in there...i agree with Steina about calling the place who did it and make them change the fluid and filter at no cost because they were at fault....it may get you a free tranny service
