no, the high flow cat is a good idea. the muffler helps create back pressure. Long tubes are nice but you will run into fitment issues and it lowers your exhaust below the frame so it becomes exposed to hazards while 4x4in. shorties will do the trick just fine. jba, gibson, edelbrock and bassini all make good headers.
hes full of it. there are plenty of guys that dont even run cats. if that guy said that then i would find another shop. swing by a 4x4 shop and ask who is the premier exhaust shop in town. it wasnt midas was it??
i've cut the cats on 2 of my trucks, ( a 95 z71 and my 86 bronco), and you can tell a difference without it. they didnt turn into super trucks or anything, but the sound was/is awesome. sure sure, i'm polluting the enviroment.... and guess what... it really doesnt bother me.
as far as putting true duals on a bronco, dont say it cant be done, because i have it on my truck. they come off the manifolds and run togather down the passenger side just like the stock exhaust, then to the mufflers, then split right before the rear axle.
also i believe what he was calling dumps, he meant cut outs.( not turn downs). i had cut outs on my Z71 right after the hedders. it didnt make really any power difference (mainly because it was a stock motor), but man it sure got everybodys attention. mine didnt have the cable opening system. they were just a y pipe deal with a cap on them. to open them up you just crawled under the truck and un capped them. they make electric ones now that will open with a flick of a switch.
as far as what exhaust i'd reccomend... i'd say get some shorty headers, run true 2 1/2" duals, cut the catsoff , & go with flowmaster 40 series. it will sound right.
the only problem with cutting the cats is if your state does emmissions testing, and finding a crooked muffler shop to do it for you.
well, i cant easily cut the 1st out because its kinda a Y pipe...but id like to pass inspection and all......would i pass in texas if it got rid of the 2nd cat and put a muffler and pipe and would i be good on low end torque
Brian, I didnt say it couldnt be done. your setup isnt a TRUE dual setup. sure your running dual pipes but true duals are equal lenght pipe running down each side of the rig. the point to having true duals is for maximum flow with the least amount of bends in the pipe. A mustang is a good example of true dual exhaust.
ok...good , cause ive about talked my self out of it.......do you think i can get away at emissions if i get rid of the 2nd cat and throw on a flowmaster
