Hello again all and thanks for the great advice you have offered to this FE new guy. I'm deciding where to get the new FE to put in my '66 F100 (thanks to the recommendations I got here). Here's the dilemma: One of the companies I am strongly considering (Jasper) will not build a 352 - they will only do a 390. I'm only a shadetree mechanic - will this motor bolt right in where the 352 was? The block is the same, of course, but what about mating the C-6? Are there going to be any differences as far as the auxiliaries (besides, I'm assuming, a need for greater cooling capacity)? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
332,352,360,390,406,410,ECT..are all the same block, just with different bores and strokes... if ya had a C6 in there with your 352..the 390 should bolt right up..
If im wrong someone will chime in and let me have it with both Barrels! LOL
RR is right. There are many modifications made to the FE series of motors down through the years, but if you aren't talking hipower and race specials, the blocks and heads of all FEs all interchange. If you get a short block from Jasper, you can have your heads from the 352 worked over to have new hardened seats and porting and all, or you can get a (probably) mis-matched set from Jasper on a long block.
Check with the FE guys here to see what the castings numbers on your current heads are, and they may be worth holding on to.
In any case, Jasper may not take your 352, or may give you only partial credit for the core. The 352 block and heads are the same to rebuild any FE, but the 352 crankshaft and rods are not used anymore. They'll be trashed.
Good luck and let us know what you decide!
i would just have your heads done up. you already have them and you don't ahve to search or spend money on another set. as banjopicker66 said get the hardend seat and ahve to guides and springs put in the, heck i would even through in a mild porting job !

rebuild it yourself and save money. Also when you do it yourself you get the best quailty product money can buy. The mechanics that are working on your truck will not care very much about it except for the paycheck. Often there are problems when people take it to others to rebuild doing it yourself ensures everythings was torwed and assembled properly. And you can not replace the satsifaction of rebuilding your engine and knowing that you know no how to break down an engine without flinching and you are not scared or intimated by it any longer if it breaks or needs more work.
