So a better choice might be the xtreme 4x4 series cams, like the X4256H-11 part # 34-231-4. Here is a link to that cam (yes it comes with in a kit like the one you linked to also just add a "K" to the front of the part number)
COMP Cams: Xtreme 4x4™, X4256H
Strong Low End & Mid-Range Torque, Good Idle

Another cam that would give you similar characteristics as the one you listed but better better suited for you engine 255DEH part # 34-223-4, that cam will work fine with stock springs and rockers easily.
COMP Cams: Dual Energy™, 255DEH
Good Torque & Mileage, Good RV and Towing Camshaft

I personally prefer the xtreme energy series but unless your willing to change out springs the xtreme energy cam has a little bit more lift then I would like on stock springs with over .500 lift (it specs at .514)

I too, am building a 429. I notice you said a cam with a split duration would be better for the 429s...letting the exhaust duration last a little longer. I came across a deal on this cam set (COMP Cams: High Energy™, 268H: Cam & Kit ) and I was wondering what you thought about it? It does not have a split duration and the lift is below .500. What are your thoughts??

it is what it is. That particular grind works pretty well in a BBC for towing and general daily driver cam in a 1ton but it's NOT the best option for a BBF just because of the exhaust.

Will it work? sure. Will it be better then stock? Yep. Is there better options? .......... probably. But maybe, if the deal is good enough and your happy then guess it works.

72 big red flat bed wat u have is a circa 1970 to 1971 lincoln 460 out of a base model continental or a town coupe. the motors were rated at 365 hp and 500 ft lbs of tourque and were under rated quite a bit. estimates and dyno numbers have put them closer to 450 hp. they run very strong and react very well to slight power adders such as intakes and headers they put ur motor at 10.5:1 compression and dont run on anything but premium.i think u will be very happy with the performance these motors put out be safe and enjoy!

Did you buy the car just for the engine or are you keeping the car?

Going to bring this old thread back to life. Currently got a 79 F100 with an 86 460 Block. Little smoke on start up, I'm figuring valve seals. I'm looking at bringing some life into the motor. I'd like to get close to 400ish HP which I believe is manageable on my budget. #1 on the plan's list is to fix the timing. Headers are on their way also. My question is it worth me pulling a set of DOVE-C heads off a late 60's truck and having them redone or should I just have the heads on the truck worked or hit up ebay for a set of aluminums? I'm enjoying reading all the info here and feel like I'm drinking from the fire hose learning about these big blocks. Sorry if this a double post, I had multiple threads open reading, lol
