I'll give you that one. It's not at all a good choice for an F-150 or heavier. I'd look at a T56 or ZF S542 for a truck, myself.

I also believe with the t-5 the shifter will be located farther back on the tail shaft so it would hit the seat and you would have to make a new hole in the floor. And like everyone else says it is not a good torque transmission, the newer ones are stronger but not really good for heavy truck use.

I'm basically assuming you want the overdrive, so why not consider something like a gear vendor's overdrive/underdrive unit? It simply mounts to the back of your existing trans, and then you have to shorten the drive shaft, but that's about it. Price may limit you, but if you're liooking at the zf's, you'll likely spend about as much on everything you will need for them too. The cost generally runs shy of $3000 new, but if you look around, I bet you can find a few used units around. I see them from time to time on ebay. saw one locally for $800, but of couse came at a time when I couldn't afford it.

for the 351W in a 1 ton, go with the zf 5 spd...somewhere in the 1980-1986 Forum, F 2fifter with a 4 sixter logged everything he did in his swap from one tranny over to the zf...i don't recall offhand what his original tranny was, but the motor was a 460 in a f-250 2wd...at any rate, he described everything he had to do to make the swap work for him...i believe you can do a search to find that, or you can take the time to go thru the threads until you find what you're looking for...

(1986 Ford 350 , 2WD Dually,351 Windsor), The T-19 I have has an external slave cylinder and I 'm wondering what kind of modifications will have to be done to do this swap (drive shaft...etc.) thanks TCD

The ZF S542, as mentioned above. This is the one off the later gasoline trucks. The only other ZF is behind the diesels, and it 1) isn't suitable for a gas engine, and 2) won't even bolt up to a 302/351 anyway, as best I can recall.

Hey guys, check this out , I found a 5-speed transmisson out of a 1983 ford 250 2wd with a 351 windsor ,and the Tag on it says EOT3-AA and the casting number is 18-01-08T-808 . I don't know where to look to identify this transmission, but I need to know what it is before I attempt to place it in my truck. I've been all over the internet and through different search engines and I still "Can't get no satisfaction" ..... Please Help!!!!

Thanks TCD

i d go with the ZF 5 speed like the 1 i hae in my ford is out of a 88 f350 with a 460 external mounted clutch slave cylinder as well it went right in my truck all i had to do was drill new crossmember bolt holes an inch back from the orignals and grind about 1/4 of an inch off my cross member on right hand side i also had to get a combination U joint because my f250 for that year used 1 1/8 inch bearing caps the f350 for 88 used 1 3/16 inch bearing caps and instead of replacing the yoke which was over a 100 dollars i just got a 30 dollar u joint being 2 caps were 1/18 for the drive line the other 2 were 1/3/19 for the zf 5 speed yoke only other thing i had to change was the floor pan to a taller one since the ZF is taller then the t19 which mine had and change the flywheel and clutch from the stock 11 to a 12 inch which is what the ZF uses stock

Yeah I'm with you on that........IT does seem wierd for a 83' to have a 5-speed ,but anyway I 've already bought the trans second hand so I just want to know what I got. The trans was probably a replacement or an upgrade. The trans is susposed to be in good condition and I got it for a cheap price so I just need to check it out.
