I don't know if this is something already talked about here, or not, but my 6.0 is running like sh@t. At a stop light, the truck will hardly idle, acting like it wants to die. While driving down the road, the truck actually sounds and feels like it shuts off and then starts up again. Any ideas? Need to get it into dealer, but I need my truck right now.
sounds like a wiring harness is chafing like some others have....
understand on some the harness is to close to a bolt end ? that shorts out the signals...
Do a search on wire chafing. I'm with Tim on this one. It will tell you where the chafing is likely to occur. Put some insulation between the wires and area where chafing is occuring until you can get it to dealer and get it fixed.
Here is a bulletin from Ford:
Wiring Harness Chafing:
Some 03/04 trucks with the 6.0 may exhibit a crank/no start, rough running, misfire, buck/jerk or lack of power. This may be due to the FICM harness chafing on a valve cover stud near the FICM. Other potential locations for chafing are where the harness routes past the EBP sensor, the belt idler on the driver side of the engine, the glow plug control module bracket on the passenger side of the engine, and the accelerator pedal sensor wires at the steering column (adjustable pedals only). Reroute and repair the harness as necessary. Broadcast Message 0918/1374, SSM #17522
Took it in to the dealership, they ran diagnostics on it and got three codes. After deciephering the codes, they arrived at a bad EGR valve. Seems ford had just issued a bulletin on this very same thing within the past week. Truck now seems to run fine. I suggested the wiring harness to the service writer, and was flatly told that was not it.
At the dealer I use, I overheard a service advisor speaking with the rental clerk who were discussing letting the rental folks know when a customer was going to need a car. The service advisor says out loud, "We need to train these customers!" I responded out loud, "Oh really!" That got a flurry of apologies and glad handing from the serviice manager. I read the work order when I sign it and I will hand write on it as well or make them correct it before I turn my truck over to them.
My Dealer has learned NOT to BS me. I have called BS on the service writer, and proven it twice while several "other" customers were in the service area. The second time, the owner of the dealership heard the conversation, he was in the parts department and overheard the entire conversation. They now keep their mouth shut, unless they are relaying info from the tech.
