I am working on a friends 1985 f-150 5.8L and it has a weird electrical issue. Truck runs rough and when you turn on anything electrical and put a load on the system it kills the engine. I know that it is not the voltage regulator. it is not the connections to the voltage regulator. Had the alternator checked and it was fine, battery is fine connections are fine and the wires are fine too. Ignition switch is fine also. If i run a wire form the coil directly to the battery it runs fine no matter what I turn on. Only getting 12 volts at the battery when the engine is running. Yet i measured 14 volts off the back of the alternator, wiring from the alternator to the battery is also fine.Truck has new voltage regulator and brain.Could it be the TFI Module? Has anywhere experienced this problem before? I am pretty good with Electrical systems but this has me stumped.

Go to a parts store and get the battery load tested. O'Reilly's has a tester that they connect to the battery that'll test the charging system while you rev the motor for them. They do it for free, too!
This probably isn't the problem, but did you make sure your alternator belt was good and snug?
