Car vin codes

I have found a guy that has a few old ford cars and am going to go see what motors they have in them. Does anyone have the engine codes for the vin on cars? He has an 66 Galaxie that I am hopeing has a 428, but I don't think I am that lucky. Thanks for the help, Jake

Look at the door tag and get the engine code..Q= 390, R = 428 or 427, check out this link

I got the vin code off the galaxie and it isn't a FE. The engine code was V. The guy said it was a V6. Wish he would have said that earlier, then I wouldn't have gotten my hopes up. Oh well, the search countinues....

I would double check your info. There were to my knowledge no V6's... you should be looking to find a 352(x), 390(q) or 427(r) under that hood. The engine code is the 5th digit.
