Question American flag question...

Since the passing of President Reagan the flags have been at half-staff. How long must they be flown this way? I thought it was only for a week after his death, but I guess I don't know the proper protocall. Anybody know?

President Bush made a proclamation that the flags would be flown at half staff for 30 days as stated by ATC Crazy.

Um, Mil1ion, do you mean "interred?" What you said brought back visions of the previous administration...

Bush declared flags should be flown at half-staff for 30 days, which is the proper protocol for a president or former president. Lesser time periods apply to lower-ranking federal officials.

A navy message came out saying we would continue to keep the flag at half mast until July 4. Don't know why the difference in the length, maybe because he was such a well liked pres (by most accounts) that the standing pres made a special concession. Normally it is supposed to be until they are interred.

The Flag must be flown at Half Staff for 30 days after the death of a current or former President. I had mine at Half Staff for the required 30 days after President Nixons death.
