When i open my drivers door the dome light or light on the door do not come on.I looked for a stuck switch but couldnt find anything.A friend said it could be a sensor.Does anyone know how to fix this or how i may begin?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-Nov-02 AT 11:47 PM (EST)]Pop the switch out and check the following.
1. If it has 2 leads on the switch, short them together and see if dome light comes on, if so, the switch is dirty/corroded and should be cleaned/replaced. If not check for power on one of the leads and ground on the other and check fuses.
2. If a single lead, ground the lead and see if lights come on. If it does, check switch mounting to ground is clean and rust/corrosion free and or clean/replace switch. If it does not, go back to the power supply checks.
By the way, the door light switch is located on the body upright in the area of the door hinges. (Not sure I understood if you could not find the switch, or could find it but it was not stuck)
The switch is built into the latch mechanism. If it isn't a broken wire inside your door, then you probably need a new latch. I don't think the switch is sold separately from the latch.

>wait..Thankyou
This is a common malady. The switch is in the door latch mech. A little contact cleaner and some WD-40 should fix it up.
And yes, the switch is pricey.

The switch is sold seperatly in fact a new lact will not include the switch. At least fords wont, try spraying carb cleaner around your latch on your door before removing it its alot easier and works most of the time.
