Just thought I'd let you guys know that I had my V10 reprogrammed due to a spark knock issue (2000 V10). This was about 2 1/2 months ago. Not only did it cure the spark knock, my gas mileage went up 1-11/2 mpg. Just thought you guys with "older" V10's might want to know this.
I even got 12 MPG with my Camper on in a recent trip. It usually only gets 10.5 mpg.
The Ford dealer did it. Ford charged me $60.00 (or maybe $80) for the shop time. They did it when I had the tranny work (warranty) done. They said they reloaded an updated program (probably newer specs). All I know is the knock is virtually gone ( I only noticed a little bit under heavy load, low RPM's and extremely hot day with the a/c on), the power seems as good or better, and it uses less fuel. It was worth it just not to hear the ping ping ping..
Did the guys at the shop say anything that would give any idea what year models this would help??? I'm guessing the '99s, '00s, and '01s would benefit from a reflash, but not the '02s and newer since the '02s is when they boosted the HP and torque.
I've got an '02 so I kinda doubt it'll make a difference for me.
Anyone know for sure?
