Well, after the SERVICE ENGINE light was on for a couple of days, this morning my truck did not fire right up. It took a couple of extra seconds of turning the key and pressing on the accelerator. I got it started and had to hold my foot on the gas at about 1,000 rmps. Let it run for about 2-3 minutes then let my foot off the gas. It idled down... then completly shut down. Would not restart, turning the key the truck was acting like it was out of gas.A buddy of mine mentioned that sometimes the SERVICE ENGINE light can be reset by a battery disconnect. That was easy enough. A few minutes later the truck started but still had to "help it" with the gas pedal. Held it for a couple of minutes let off it, it died. SERVICE ENGINE light reappeared...My same buddy will be over on Saturday to check fuel pump pressure and possible replacement, he also has an analyzer. Will check back tomorrow eve. for any input. Thank you in advance for any other ideas.
The idle air control valve is on the back of the throtle body. It is a small black and silver cylender(sp). It has a small electrical plug on it. I bought mine at a dicounted price. My buddy is a ford tech. It cost me $65. I think it is around $80-$100. Ford wanted $225 to install it. It took me 15 minutes to do. There is only three or four bolts that hold it on. It is just a pain to manuver around. Hope this helps!
ELLC seems to know his IAC. I stopped at NAPA one the way home. He is getting me a controler tomorrow for 55$. When I got home I removed the one on my truck and sprayed it real good with some cleaner. It was carboned-up pretty badl. Put it back on. Turned the key and away we go! So I'm going to go through the whole thing again on Sat. I put the old cleaned on back on to see if it was the problem reckon it was. No SERVICE ENGINE light and it seems to start and idle like new. If anyone would like more detail on the removal and install proceedure just ask I'll be happy to go over the details...
