Worm up the motor and hit it with some motor cleaner, let it sit a little then hose it off. One of those U-wash place will work good.

I used to do this in the 80s, but once I saw the rust that forms in the electrical connectors, I decided I'd let the motor stay dirty. The most I do now is wipe off certain parts.

Once you've gotten the gunk off and BTW using a 'true' engine type cleaner will get the motor clean. Anyway, once it is cleaned....I try to give the whole engine a 'tire foam' treatment......I would let it set over night.....then when you pop the hood.....all the rubber looks like new and clean.....

Maybe some new/used car detailers can reply back to this thread and explain how they get the egine bays clean????

I use simple green straight on the motor not dilluted and let it sit for 5 minutes or so with the engine off of course, then wash it all off and use a leaf blower to blow the water off the motor and then shine it with a armorall or tire foam spray that makes the motor shine like new and preserves the rubber hoses from craking.... Good Luck!
