Vibration

This is a tough one to describe, but here goes...
While under light throttle at around 80 km / 50mph I am experiencing some sort of growl / slight vibration in the floor and body of my 92 Aerostar 3.0.
The condition seems consistant with engine rpms and if i take my foot off of the accelerater, the noise / vibration goes away.
This condition can also be felt on slightly uneven driving surfaces while the suspension is loading up... As the springs compress I hear and feel it and as they decompress, it stops.
I was thinking possibly a worn engine mount allowing metal to metal contact thus transmitting the engine vibration to the chassis, but I may be way off base.
Any ideas?

I think you might have a miss caused by a bad spark plug wire or bad plug.

It's also could be a broken Transmission mount. I've had a couple break and it lets the end of the trans move around.

since you say it only happens under power, that's what makes me think that it's the U-joint. When mine went, it didn't clunk right away, only after it got bad...but it could always be alot of things...At least you have a few ideas to look at.

I finally got around to checking the vibration problem this weekend.
Thanks moneypit, you were right on the money with your U joint suggestion.
I also managed to find a few other things to fix while I was under the van and now with the exception of an exhaust manifold leak the van is 100%
The manifold only ticks when the engine is cold, and goes away after a few minutes, so I will be living with it for now.
I dont even want to know how long and how many bleeding knuckles it will take to do that job!!
