I need to replace my rocker arms due to huge scratches in the shafts.
I think this is related to the very loud "tap" that i've been getting, regaurdless they are worn.
I am looking in Dennis Carpenter and they have:
Shafts = $20 x 2 = $40
Rocker Arm stands = $12.50 x 8 = $100
Rocker Arms = $7.50 x 16 = $120
Total = $260
My questions are:
1. Is this the best way to go?
2. Do I need to replace my pushrods as well for $48 more?
Poke around in a junkyard you never know what you might find under some FE valve covers, i.e. aftermarket rocker assemblies. If you have the money and are planning on a big cam someday get some Erson roller rocker assemblies. At 610.00 from summit or flatlander they are a good deal. I got them and I don't think I will enver need another set of rockers.
Otherwise find a complete set of stock assemblies for around 200.00. Don't expect to run high lift or roller cams with these.

You dont need new stands. The stock ones see absolutely no wear, and can be re-used. You might think about getting some heavy duty shafts if you're going to be (or are already) using an aftermarket cam.
