Why don't they just get it over with and ship us a big box full of sheetmetal and nuts & bolts and let us put them together ourselves.

Cutting that from the XL and even the STX makes since since most of those trucks are plain jane work trucks that will be beaten into a pulp, but the xlt makes no sense. Many people buy the XLT to use as a main driver and limited work and will want the sound material. They should at least leave the sound stuff in the Scab and Screw in the XLT line.

35% of F-150 are XLTs. It's Ford's bread and butter truck.

I have said this here before and why some folks don't get it is beyond me. Bill Ford has stated that he wants to reduce content of the NEW F-150. That means you are going to pay more but get less. If you have a 2000-2003 F-150 SCrew, compare the trucks. Look for storage. On the new F-150, there isn't any except the door panels, look for the underhood light- there isn't one, and the list goes on. How someone can rave about how good these new trucks are is over my head- you pay more but get less- and that's suppose to be good?

Even if what you say is true, I'd still pick the 2004 over the 2003 and I had my choice to do so. It's a superior truck.

Last time I checked, my under-hood light didnt work for crap anyways, I always have a flashlight in the glovebox for that reason.

I just sold a 2001 supercrew for a 2004 lariat supercrew, less storage is not a big deal either - from what I noticed there were many more great features on the 2004 compared to my 2001 lariat.

Actually the interiors of the 2004 are roomier, thus there is more storage room than the older models. I have the Scab and the back seat area looks bigger to me than previous years. In any case, I could have bought the 2003, but am extremely happy with the 04 and would make the same choice again.

And to add, the regular cabs have a bigger storage area behind the seats than the older models.

i dont think that gretting rid of that isulation will make much of a differnace at all. the 2004 are very quiet inside anyway and wht insulations is not what does it anyway according to ford is the new "quiet steel". they way i look at it anyway is that one day it will be to expensive for anyone to buy a new car or truck the way the prices are going up all the time.

If it didn't make that much of a difference, Ford wouldn't have used it in the first place.

It would be interesting to see the difference if someone had a sound meter and tested both.

I would be willing to bet that you will not be able to tell much of a difference in the sound. I really dont think they would take away the insulation if there was a substantial difference. There should be some seperation in model lines. If you remember, in the 80's and early 90's a headliner was an option. Now we complain about underhood insulation and a light that is not very useful to begin with. Stop complaining.
