so many problems, lets start with fuel pump. repalced one pump already. and the rear pump went bad later on. now i have hard starting problem like its not getting gas. i turn the switch on two or three times thinking it may feed gas better and after four or five tries it will start. but runs a few seconds and then will cut even while pushing on gas pedal. seem s to run a little better in neutral.
once going it will stall alittle when giving speed and then pickup rpms. my guess is maybe the pump isnt all the way gone but is not pumping enough pressure to operate properly. this truck is lemon from the word go. have other problems with hard starting before, replaced starter, battery, and solenoid twice but still acts like a dragging starter. any help would be helpful. thanks
What kind of truck is it? We need more information to help. Is it the one you seem to have in your name? If so, it is old and you probably have about what you paid for.
Not sure which truck you have, but in my experience the starters are fairly failure-prone on 90s F-150's. Good news is its an easy change - an hour or two in a well equipped shop and you can have the starter replaced without alot of trouble. As a diagnostic measure, look for tranny lube on the starter gear next time you have it out. Those front tranny seals aren't the greatest either.
I have an '85 F-250 with a 460 (carburator). I would have starting problems that kept getting worse, and worse. I finally placed an inline electric fuel pump in it and it seemed to correct the startup issues almost immediately. However, I have a similar issue with it not wanting to stay running after it starts up. No matter what I do now the engine just cuts out moments after startup. Plenty of gas reaches the carburator and it is definetly getting spark. I can't figure this one out ethor. Anyone have any suggsestions?
