When I bought my '72 F100, the widshield wipers were situated @ 2 o'clock. I assumed (before I turned it on) that this was where the switch was turned off and that the wipers had simply stopped there. However, upon turning the wipers on, they continued down to the bottom of the windshield before starting back up. While they are running, they run normally; that is, they go from the bottome of the windshield all the way over to the other side, as it is supposed to function. However, when I stop the wipers (wherever they are in the rotation) they always stop at 2 o'clock.
After looking in an LNC catalog and pricing the new motor (phew!) I decided that the wiper motor would have to be a junk yard purchase. However, before I make my purchase, I was wondering if I could replace the switch and the motor with one from a vehicle that has intermittant wipers. If this is feasible, does anyone know of a year/model that has intermittant wipers where the switch was located on the dash rather than on the stearing column (as they are on virtually every new vehicle).
I can't think of a single vehicle that has a 'factory' int switch for the wipers on the dash. I know several companies make an aftermarket int switch. I would find one that I could fab/modify it or a mount to look 'factoryish' and install. mho, good luck
There used to be a kit available to make the wipers intermittent. When you turn off the wiper switch there is a park function that stops them at the bottom. You might try another switch. This shouldn't be to hard to fix.
the motor on fords is not where the intermitent comes in. get the switch from an 80 -86 with intermitent wipers, there is also a control module plugged in the back of the switch, get it also. install the switch in the dash where your switch is now. the plug is the same except for the washer circuit, you will have to use a pushbutton like the 65/66 did. it all plugs in and works fine. you will have to cut about .5 in off the shaft on the switch to make it match up with the others. then just put your **** back on.
Jim is correct. I am not sure how far back inter-wipers go but I got mine out of a 1976 truck. It is a direct wire swap in. Best thing since sliced bread!
It may be possible to adjust the "parking" switch on the motor. It would be a lot cheaper than a new motor. I havn't looked at the motor recently but the park position is usually adjustable.
