Aight, first of all, Im new to the boards and real new to ford.
Im going to say Im chevy do or die, but I likes the explorer.
So I got me a 99 explorer xlt. NOW, im a bass fanatic, gota have it,
and i noticed that the explorer had a cd/cassete player built in.
On the back of the head unit in there is there a remote/rca hook up? or am I goning to have to get a different head unit regardless?
If you are going to add any aftermarket equipment, you're going to have to have things made to RF convert or go to an aftermarket head unit. The stock head unit has no RCA jacks and the only way to take the signal is from the output of the speaker leads. Bazooka makes a really cool powered bass tube that has the amp for the tube and an amp for up to 4 speakers built right in it and it is set up to take it's input from the speaker leads. I just put one in my brother-in-law's truck and for it's size, man it rocks. You can get them at crutchfield. About $300.
id recommened if you change the head unit ... change the speakers also .. aftermarket radios put out alot more power then the facotry ones, the speaker material in aftermarket ones are better better material and can handle more sound
Aftermarket speakers are more durable then the stock ones.. better sound quality and more options to creat a good sound scheme you can go to any store that sells car audio like a best buy or circuit city and they can help you pick something for your truck, you can also shop online at Crutchfield.com they have 24 hour customer assistance and give ya good suggestions also
