Ok guys. Here is the next real good question. I want a carb for my 292 that is electric choke and modern. I think I need a 600CFM carb. What is the best carbo and easiest to install on our motors. Something that does not require a ton of work and BTW I have the intake that allows for newer holly carbs. Ed
I have a Holley 600 CFM on my 292. It can be made to work but requires a lot of tuning to compensate for the fact that it is too many CFM's for the displacement. An Edelbrock 500 CFM or Demon 525 CFM would be a better choice. The current issue of Classic Trucks magazine has a short article (I haven't read it yet) on choosing the right carb. Mike
I am having good luck with my 500 cfm edelbrock rite out of the box. If my memery is rite you have a 58? You will need a gas pedel bellcrank and linkage from a 6 cylinder truck that combo works perfect.
Excellent. I was afraid that 600 was too much. I am just about stock except I have headers instead of the crossover. Actually my 292 was one I got out of a 59 not a 58. I have the big valves and the 220 HP motor. Ed
Don't want to get off subject here, but Ed, did your motor come out of a 59 truck, and if so did it have the big valve heads or did you add them from a car? I have been wondering if the 59 trucks had the 113 heads like the 59 cars.
No. I got my engine from a ford custom 300 and it did have all of the correct numbers per ford y. I had a bellhousing on my truck and that is what I am using. Or well use. At present I am not rebuilding the motor but refreshing it. New gaskets all the way round and replacing any worn parts as I see them. I have the heads cleaned out and am working on a method to flush the block as well. PITA is what it is. I will not be ready for a carb for a month or two so I thought I would ask now. Ed
