padd54, What engine do you have in your 53 now? Check you mounts, If there is 2 under the bellhousing and one in the front then a 292 swap is not too hard. I had swapped the sixer from my 64 and put in a 292 from a 63ish I just had to remanufacture the front engine mount.
Does anyone know if I can put my 292 in a 1953 Aero-****** Ace?
I think most of these users answered you already and gave you good information! As in Yblock 292 has front mount and rear mount, and i wuld be sure and install the engine and transmission as a unit. As far as driveshaft difference, don't worry, that's no problem! Take the 292 transmission slip yoke and ahve welded to your present driveshaft and cut off of your existing driveshaft any over length then have it welded at a driveshaft and truck PTO shop, then be darned sure it's balanced by them.
Anything can be done, it's just a matter of what it means to you and to how for an extent you're willing to go. Ever heard the one where, a guy will say on a 65-66 Ford mustang that has a 200 CI 6 that you can drop in a 302. Wanna BET????? Oh yes, we did one, but your shock tower mounts had to be changed first, then we dicovered the 289 bellhosing wouldn't work because a 302 uses a taller flywheel(oh yes, we were able to bolt a C4 289 bellhousing on the 302, but when we attempted to put the starter on, uh oh!!! wouldnt mount because the flywheel hung down to far), so we had to go aquire a 1968 on up C4 automatic)...We advised the man all along it wasn't a good move and he would have to change his tie rods and rear end and put 5 lug setup on his front end and that the car would be dangerous, but he was an older mature customer that had a salvage yeard standing by with a 68 mercuring cougar for the rear end and wheel rims and a 67 mustang for the 5 lug setup and larger tie rod ends next we dicovered the 6 and 289 tranny has 3 less splines on the input shaft, oh yes we did the job alright, and he changed the rear end a little latter on because of course it was a 4 lug rear with a low ratio. The lesson here is yes you can do it, but do your math first, then do it.....Janet
292 motor application would I think be easiest with a C-4 automatic transmission. May be way off here because I have no concept of the vehicle you are referring to. But with the auto you can use a front motor mount, a car bellhousing, and not have to hassle with the clutch linkages.

Not sure on that C4 for use, as a conversion is neccesary on those for Yblock, the Fmx, that has the old 60's bellhousing that bolts to the 390 engines used back then, does bolt right up......Janet
