I thought I could live with my rusty, rotten tailgate (bottom half) but its getting annoying so I'm looking into some different options for fixing it. Either getting a piece of metal shaped like this "U" (except squared off) and welding that on the bottom or perhaps buying the add-on piece that is for sale on Ebay. After that I would definitely sand-blast, prime and paint the entire gate. The other thing I wondered about was where the tension bar is supposed to be on the inside of the the tailgate. Mine just seems to be free inside and when I put the gate down it presses against the outer shell and makes a cracking sound. I was hoping somebody might have a exploded view of the inner components or even a picture or something. My third problem is I can't open my tailgate unless I pull down on a rod that is on the inside. It basically lets the handle open the locks otherwise the handle just pulls up and does nothing. The rod just hangs there and I'm not exactly sure where it goes. Sorry for the long post. Any advice or comments are welcome, thanks in advance for everyones help.
Hi, reference the rust on the bottom... www.JCWhitney.com has really cheap parts for your Bronco. I bought a section that replaces that rusty area. You might also would want to replace the rubber window channel for your back window. But from the information I read, you may just want to go to a junkyard and replace it. Good luck! Bill
I checked it out, but as far as I can see they only make the bottom section for 1978-87 Bronco's, and I need one for a 91/92. Would it work anyway do you think?
ive been debating for quite a while about it. It looks like a good deal, and for $29 bux your not gonna lose much if it rusts again in 5 or 6 years. I really think i am gonna try it.
Have you guys checked out the site sponsors listed at the top of the forums? They have high quality body parts. Some of those cheap body panels will dent if you press on them with your thumb. If you are going to all the trouble to repair your vehicle don't go cheap on the materials or parts if you value your time at all...
I talked to a guy that said a bunch of his friends, who happen to be mechanics, used the panel and they no complaints! I think I might just go ahead and order one.
