I own a 1998 Ford Explorer Sport w/a 6 cyl 4.0 liter SOHC engine. My problem is that on cold days it takes around 10-15 minutes to warm up. I have to stay in the truck revving it to keep the engine running. Once it warms up it stays running with no problems. I have never had this problem with a 6 cylinder engine or one that is only 4 years old before and have tried everything that I can think of to fix the problem. If someone could help me out I would appreciate it greatly.
First thing I would check would be your MAF and IAC... they are both probbly dirty and need to be cheaned. Also check you air filter while you are at it and don't forget to disconnect your battery while doing all this. The idle on my SOHC was fixed by doing these and I have had no problems since.
