Tremclad thinning?

I usually don't thin my tremclad when spraying it with the gun. The gun sprays it just fine, a little slow, but fine. Also very hard to get runs, and in turn good results. When I used to thin it, I would thin it 4:1 buy guessing. I found the thinner would tend to separate, so when you would get near the end you would be spraying waaay to thin paint and it would run like crazy and tick me off.
