Tonight coming home from work, I stepped on the pedal to pass a slow moving vehicle . The truck down shifted , rpm's came up and the turbo kicked in and then KA-BANG it sounded like a gun shot from under the hood .
It was the plastic tube that has the work ENG with an arrow that goes to the engine (intake manifold???) it slipped off .
Is this a common thing that happens and is there a fix to prevent it from happing again .
Yes, this is a pretty common thing....do a search and you will find quite a few threads about this. I just read one recently. I believe I read you can clean the intake and tube with degreaser (not brakeclean) and re-torque the clamp.....this is supposed to help or stop it from happening again. Good luck!
Yes it is common and 569104 is correct, clean it (I use break Kleen myself) you may use anything that does not leave a residue, CLEAN ALL PARTS, rubber inside and out and all metal parts.
Then reassemble. It is my opinion that the TQ on the clamp bolt is not enough.
I blew mine twice before I went bit higher. Now I know that bolts need the proper TQ, however it is from my own experience this will continue to happen until the TQ is increased, only after cleaning and reassembling.
The reason I use Break Kleen is it actually leaves the rubbers so clean it is sticky.....IMO.

degreaser and carb cleaners leave a residue. u had it right, just switched
Yes brakekleen works great , mine came off yesterday and at 36psi it was real loud. To get rid of the oil you need to route the crankcase vent elsewhere , like a canister or in the exhaust like mine.

There is a couple ways to do it ,
First way is to plumb a Racor 4500 filter from the crankcase vent to the filter and then back up to the intake tube.
Second way is to turn the crankcase vent on the vavle cover around then run the hose down to the exhaust pipe by the transmission and weld in a 1/2 inch pipe nipple facing forward at a 45 degree angle then screw on an air check vavle and attach the hose. The check vavle is the ones used on an air injection system on a gasser.

I see, like the old days of runnig a PCV in to a set of headers collector tube, used to do it on SB chevys for sprint cars
