Took my 93 explorer in to have them diagnose soft pedal. I suspected bad master cylinder and would have changed but the Haynes and Chiltons manuals said not to without bleeding the ABS. Dealership said that someone had put tranny fluid in the reservoir and therefore the whole system needed replacing for $2000. Took it to my certifed mechanic friend who confirmed that the M/C was the problem. He replaced and no more problem. The dealer also said the rear wheel cylinders were leaking fluid all over the shoes which turned out to be a total lie. Glad I knew enough to walk away. Why do these people want to be disreputable? It's getting so you can't trust hardly anyone. My two cents.
Sitting in a dealership (stealership) I heard a service advisor tell a little ol' lady (really, she musta been at least 65) that she needed trunk fluid. The same dealership told my wife she needed a new heater core for her car. It turned out that the heater core hose had rotted off the heater core. Replaced hose and it was fine.
The dealer is closed up now and I don't miss them.
Well that stinks for both of you, but they definately arent all like that. I am on a first name basis with basically everyone (including the owner) of the local Ford dealership here. I have had nothing short of a perfect relationship with them.
The local ford S^HDtealership has the same problem.
Took the 96 Exp in for an alignment They called back later said they could not align the vehicle because one of the ball joints was 'dangerously' loose and the wheel could fall off and for $600 and the price of the alignment they could make everything right. Considering that I had had the truck up on a lift the day before and had checked the balljoints I called Bravo Sierra and went to another ford dealer who found nothing wrong.
I am just sick and tired of businesses making up faults to increase their bottom line. I maintain my trucks, Both of them have 200,000 Miles plus so I spend a fair amount to ensure that they will be around for another 200K.
Treat me honestly and I will leave my dollars at your business try and cheat me and I will go elsewhere and I will not buy a new car from you
Dealerships command a higher labor rate, so you'd expect better qualified mechanics.
It's not just the dealerships. This is why so many people drive cars with defects. They are avoiding the pain of dealing with repair shops. It's really hard to find a used car in any kind of decent shape these days.
I was told by a dealer my wheel cylindars were frozen and need replacing, I took it to another shop, who said there wasnt a thing wrong with them.. This was the same trip when the stealer botched installation of a thermostat, claimed it was faulty out of the box, and took another half-day to re-replace it.
