I would like to change the gears to result in 1800 RPM @ 65 MPH.
Should I look for a different rear end, or purchase a new gears for my original rear end? What gearing would I need? If looking for a different rear end, what would be the year of any donor truck and what markings on the donor rear end would apply as well as location of markings?????
Running 31" tires and an A4OD tranny at 2200 RPM to go 61.7 MPH shows 4.63 gears.
Running 31" tires and an A4OD tranny at 1800 RPM to go 65.8 MPH shows 3.55 gears.
Thanks for the come back. Would you purchase new gears?? A Different R end? What would I expect to pay for new gears???? Would you look for a different R end? What would I look for? Markings???? Year of Truck?????
Three years ago I tore a locker out of mine and trashed the gears and bearings.
I had a driveline shop here in town install new ring gear and pinion, bearings, and a limited slip. The bill was 700 dollars and the guy is a friend. He does all my driveline work.
The cheapest I have found a complete axle for is over a thousand for a 10.25" Sterling.
If it were me I would go for new gears and have the rest of the bearings checked while it is apart.
If you get a different rearend you may have to do the overhaul anyway, because you will not know what you have.
There should be a tag on the rear that has the ratio on it unless it has been removed.
PS The A4OD was miss typed, I wanted type E4OD
