Hey guys here is the story. My check engine light came on today. I went to Autozone and was told that "the pcm has determined that there is excessive flow in the exhaust gas recirculation system", code p0402. I have read several posts about the egr and pdfe valves being the culprits, but I need to know if anyone knows of a website that has diagrams or pictures of where these parts are located. My husband is a rookie ( a skilled rookie) but a rookie all the same.
Oh yeah I have a 1999 expy xlt 5.4L.
P.S. If someone can't think of a website with diagrams, a well detailed description of the location of the egr and pdfe would greatly be appreciated.
I don't know of any website that will help you. You should go back to Auto Zone and invest in a Haynes' Manual. Everything you need to know will be inside, with detailed explinations, and very good pictures.
Welcome to FTE princess. I vote the same. Get the book. It is the first thing I do when I get a vehicle. I also have a 99. Don't leave home without the book. Good luck.
When I owned my lexus there was a company a lot of the guys used called alldata that you could join i think for $20 a year and get pics, precedures and installation info.
Guys
I've never been much of a do-it-yourselfer, but have tried my best. I had the same codes on my '97 5.4L 4X4 and was told it was the O2 sensor, replaced it and got the same codes. Replaced the PDFE still the same codes. After spending $125 on stuff that didn't solve the problem I finally took it to the dealer. It had something to do with the PCV hose(?). Paid the $109 and it's fixed. I agree with everyone else, the Haynes Manual is a MUST HAVE.
I agree with the Haynes manual as being a must have and also with the alldata website. I joined alldata (for Ford Windstar) and between it and the Hyanes manual solved a very expensive problem (other than $200 in parts). The alldata site is a little clumsy to navigate at first, but you eventually figure it out. The only problem I saw was that it was geared somewhat to the professional Ford mechanic who had access to all the diagnostic tools (such as the STAR). Still, not bad for $20/year.
