I called the service department today and asked them about changing my atf and filter. TO my surprize he told me they where not changing the tranny fluid and filter at 30,000 and that they had not done that for a couple of years now. He did not even now what kind of fluid it took.I said how have you not been changing the fluid most of the 6.0's are just getting to that milage now. I now he did not know what he was talking about. The owners manual says to change the outer filter and fluid at 30,000 miles Also I can not find Mercon sp anywhere ,Does anyone know where to get it???? I dont think the dealer knows what it is....Thats pretty bad if the dealer doesnot know what there talking about
amsoil is probly better stuff anyway, Ineed to have some specs on mercon sp so I can compair.....IF I cant get mercon sp but from ford I dont want it . what If you get a leek in your tranny and there is not a ford dealer around .....
as I see It nothing is going to be compatible.what gets me is the dealer saying you can go over 30,000 miles without changing the fluid and filter....not even knowing if you use your truck for long hauls and really work the tranny ....
Amsoil told me that the new ATF has less vicosity for better MPG. It's thinner.
They don't have anything at this time.
Ford did something like that with their cars a few years ago when they came out with 5W - 20 motor oil. Couldn't find that either. It's just for the CAFE ratings. It was later disclosed one could use 5W - 30 with no problems. They just needed the 1/1000 of a point for their MPG ratings.
I'm not sure what they are up to with this tranny oil thing. It could be just the same thing.
One would think synthetic would be the way to go. But where do you get it?
Weird.

When will there be a by-pass filter system for the Ford 6.0 diesel? Also can I use Amzoil ATF in this new automatic?
Thanks in advance.
The bypass filtration system for the 6.0L PSD is under study and no timing (if any) is available presently. The automatic transmission used with this engine uses a new fluid spec not available from AMSOIL.
