A C6 requires Mercon, with specs not as stringent, as Mercon V, or Mercon SP.......so I guess that's one reason
Amsoil has worked for you.......

Then again, your statement must say something for the Ford C6, not Amsoil ATF!!!!!

Ford requires the use of Mercon SP since they have special additives in the formulation. It's all about money.... Ford knows that they are the only resource for the Mercon SP and it helps drive customers back to the dealer for service.

The manufacture that Ford buys from is under contract not to discuss the additive package and is prohibited from selling it themselves.

I read where there are several cars from Chrysler that take special tranny fluid and some change year to year. Each oil and tranny fluid has their own unique set of chemical compounds that can be tested for. Blackstone labs can tell the brand oil (or close to) by additives they find. The same can be don if you ever have tranny problems and Ford tests the fluid to see if its Mercon SP.

Obviously, those of you that want Amsoil go for it.... but don't be posting on this Forum how Ford screwed you out of warranty repairs. Come on guys, you bought the truck, so take care of it and follow the owner's manual. For the one guy that posted that his dealer doesn't even have the fluid... should find another dealer real fast!!!

I for one will change at 30,000 (before actually) and watch the fluid being poured in.

Good luck to all,

Thanks,

Jeff

ill be using sp in the next month when it is my turn...... whats this tranny gonna g=cost at 102,000 miles when it takes a dump cuz i tried to save money?

out of warranty, out of luck.

by the way,, CAFE does not apply to vehicles with a GVWR of 8500lbs or more. it is the reason f250/f350 do not have epa fuel economy estimates on the window stickers.

good luck with amsoil!

am.................soil ? does that mean it's dirt?

Matts250,

You mentioned warranty, but it is my understanding (And I will re-read the manual), but the 100,000 mile warranty is for the motor only, not the tranny?

Does anyone know for definate, or do I need to go out to my truck and read?

A friend corrected me today and said the 3/36,000 covers everything but the motor, and the motor is something like ?/100,000???

So... we all better use the right fluid (Mercon SP) because to save a few bucks will or could hurt you sooner than later.

Thanks,

Jeff

100,000 is on engine only. And guess what? They can use remanufactured parts on repair. It is on p[age 6 of the Warranty Guide.

Im going to talk to another dealer monday and see what they say about the tranny fluid change. I will use mercon sp because of what i read in the 6.0 bulletins about the tranny fluid. Iknow ford will most likely do a good job on my tranny its only a fluid change , what I wanted to do is take it to ATS and have them work on it.

just because u dont choose to use it does not mean u need to badmouth it over and over in here!!

this is just the kind of useless opinion that we are trying to get rid of!!! all u are doing is bringing down the overall intelligence average by posting pointless badgering opinions.

u may call names in ur own time, but in this forum, i ask u to lay off my oil of choice! u have ZERO evidence shown of its inibility to do the job as well as any other synthetic oil. until u do, i hope u give it a rest.

Your defensiveness comes from being brainwashed by Amsoil!!!

I would say it is a form of weakness in people that are talked into MLM scams like Amsoil!!!!
