What does the 5.4 sound like with no muffler? I was wondering if the converters did a good job of silencing the engine.

There is a F-150 in my neighbor hood that is running no mufflers and possibly no cats.....I think is sounds like an uncorked weedeater.

I have my 2001 S'crew 5.4L with cat back duals and no muffler and it sounds killer. Raspy sound.

My 5.4 has no muffler but the stock cats are still there, the exhaust exits in front of the passenger rear tire. You can only tell it's mufflerless when you hit the accelerator... it's a lot louder than stock.. A LOT Louder! You can tell the difference in the cab, though it is not as loud as my old '82 at 55-65mph.
