Off idle Stumble?

Guys,

I've been back into the valve train and made adjustments again. It still runs rough off idle. I think I can ruel out valve adjustemnt now. I also feel like the igition should be good, so this leaves me with a carb problem.

Any suggestions?

Sympton:

When coming off idle she stumbles and stutters up until about 2000rpm when it feels pretty good. There may still be a miss afetr 2000, but it's not nearly as obvious.

Greg if the carb worked before it shouldnt be an issue...Unless you got some crap in it??

Have you checked your advance? You say it Idles good? but runs like crap between say 800rpm and about 2000rpm.. and then it runs like a raped ape?

I was running good before the recent vale cover leaks and valve adjustments. So I don't really suspect the timing. I'm running the same setup I was when it Dyno's so well and whe nit was last running good. I cleaned up the cap some and made sure the advance echansim was lubed and moving freely.

If you don't mind my buttin in here, I'd say take another look at your plug wires. Definately sounds more like ignition than carb which would be more of a "dead spot".

The vacuum fluctuates a bit at lower RPMS. So, I am a bit concernbed about a vacuum leak.

I got a new cap and wires and plugs. That ought to help rule out the ignition.

new wires, look nice. New cap, looks nice.

Still runs like !@#$! This friggin' POS is making me angry. I'm so !@# tired of throwing money at this pile of expensive parts!

Why the !@#$ can't somthing just work for once.

I obviously need a different hobby. Now would be a great time for somebody to come steal this POS from me for for pennies on the dollar. I'll just go get me a new diesel F250 and get more torque, better mileage and less fuss. then when I find my boat, I'll just go get it. What a novel idea. get in a truck and drive to haul something without worrying about what high dollar part is going crap out next!

I think I have a vacuum problem. Not a battle I wanted to fight now.

To top it off. I bought a new set of spark plugs. I searched the forum to find that most of you like the Autilite 45s. The ones I got will not fit in these heads. No way, different thread size and pitch! :-( DId they just put the wrong plugs in the box? Am I losing my mind?

AHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!

Tex, do you have locks on those valves? Been thru that with the plugs, different years, different size. (don't remember the years tho) It could be a vacuum leak ( but you said it ran fine before) maybe the intake didn't seal, but I doubt it. Do you still have the old parts, or did you toss 'em already? I have gotten "bad new parts" before so don't beat yourself up over it. You cannot take anything for granted today, just because you put new parts on it doesn't mean that they are any good. What I'm trying to say is, start back at square one and TEST everything. I would start with the ignition (it ran before so, put the old ignition parts back in and see what happens). This may sound dumb but make sure your accel pump is working. Make sure that your wires are routed right. (I know, you've looked at them 100 times) Make sure that your advance is hooked up to the correct source.

I know how you feel, I'm working on a Buik today that has me so p*#@d that I can't see straight. I'm going to take a break and go jump in the pool with my cooler and let the jets work on me for a while.
