It's been raining to I havent had a chance to tackle it but...My motor is from a '68 Torino GT(390FE) and I can't find any place on the block to mount the thing for the z-bar....well...my frame mount is there w/ the plastic fittings in place where they need to be. There is no feasible place though to mount it on the engine...i have the engine mount thing I took off a 360 but I don't believe my 390 has the same mount holes...didnt look like it when I glanced under the hood. Also I can't find the Z-bar and correct stuff around here but I have one from an 80 3/4 ton and it looks as though it might should work. Anyone have any ideas? I've never fooled w/ the workings of manual trannies in this form and it's got me pretty confused right now.
Just got done putting my engine back in on my 79 f150, 351m np 435 manual trans. The equalizer bar set up has a angle bracket with a ball on it that one end of the Z-bar rides on. This angle bracket mounted via two 3/8 inch bolts in to the side of the bell housing right at the housing /engine block metal spacer . Dont know if this helps on a 390 tho, just a try, good luck
Greg, a 302, 351w/c/m, 400, 429, 460 all bolt the bell housing. All of the FE's bolt to the block. Machfather, let me know if anyone has sent pictures yet. If they haven't, I can hook you up. There is a plate that has a ball stud on it that will bolt to the back of your block.
I have that little bracket w/ the ball that bolts to the back of the block. The problem is though...it looks like it will set further back than the frame bracket w/ the ball. That's what is bugging me...and it seems like there's way too much space for the z-bar to fit.
are you sure that the Z bar and the plate that bolts to the frame are for a truck? If you want...take some measurements of your pices....and I will measure mine to make sure that they are the same. You may also try to find the part numbers on them. Let me know what you have and I will look at mine.
I will try to measure them today if I get a chance. The frame bracket piece is what was originally on my truck. It lines up where it should w/ the holes in the cab. I'll try to measure it though and find out.
