I have a 2001 F150 SC and have had continueous problems with the parking brake getting stuck on. I have had the brake cable replaced by the local dealer and after that it worked fine for a while.
Since I do not use it very often, it is difficult to gauge when it stopped working again, but if I use it now, it will remain engaged on the rear passenger side until I get under and tap the brake arm towards the rear of the truck to release it.
I have a 2000 F150SC 4WD I pulled the rear discdrums off disassembled all the park brake parts and applied never seize to all moving parts including the actuator arm. That has done the trick so far one and one half years.
there is no woay to fix it. dont worry about replacing the cables anymore. The problem is that u do not use it that often. if you are going to use it you should use it everytime you park, but really since u dont need to use it{that is unless ur transmission is manual}, i would recomend not using it. If it isnt used alot it will stick, so there is no probleme really. hope this helps you.
My 02 F150 (40,000 miles) had a similar problem with the parking brake. Except i use my parking brake ALL the time since day one of owning the vehicle.
My parking brake light would stay on until i played with the release handle. It wasn't until the brake actually hung up and started to heat up to the point of smelling it that i went to the dealer to complain about it. They found that the mechanism/cable had rusted/corroded up and prevented it from releasing fully.
My extended warranty covered the service repair which was cleaning and lubing the cable except for a $20 charge for BS they managed to say they needed to charge me for.
Anyway, now it seems that i need to press the parking brake pedal all the way to the floor for it to engage. I may be going back again because i'm not very happy about the way it works now.
I have just replaced the front pads and will be going in to check/replace the rear next weekend. I'll disassemble the drums and check for any siezed parts when I'm in there.
Luckily, the cables were replaced under warranty last year - you'ld think the dealer would check the rest of the mechanism when they did that...
