My wife found a problem with my paint job today. Actually, right after we washed it. On the right rear quarter panel There is a 2 foot long 6 inch thick area that looks as if it was sanded down with a power grinder. Perhaps a place where they didn't get it painted comepletely? It is definitely under the clear coat.
Do I just take it in and make them fix it? You can only see it in direct sunlight, but it is easy to see if you are looking for it.
I know I ask a lot of silly questions, but This is the best place to ask them...

Absolutely. Brand new truck and an obvious flaw. It will bug you to no end if you don't. Under the current warranty you are fully entitled.

I feel the same way but have found this place extremely helpful. Not only is the information top rate, it's entertaining as well.
I do not mean to be a pesimist, but i'd run a magnet over that area. Years ago my brother bought a "new" celica. He notice chicken wire seeminly coming out a lower portion of his fender. The dealership admitted to some makeshift body work and agreed to trade it in after facing legal action.
I dropped my truck off this morning for the windshield and throttle. I also mentioned the issue with the fender. Of course you can't see it unless the sun is directly on it and it was dawn when I dropped it off. Anyway, I am with you Toreador, I wouldn't be able to sleep if I didn't get it fixed.
Triton-ic: I appreciate the realistic not pessimistic view. Fortunately for me, my best friend of 20 years is an excellent lawyer. Hopefully, I won't need him, but the option is there if needed.
I'll report later on the throttle and I will have the codes needed for the reprogramming as well.
If the paint problem is not that noticeable, you might want to think about leaving it alone. When dealers try to "fix" things, more often then not, they end up makeing things worse. Just my opinoin.
If at first they don't succeed... Try, Try again. Eventually they will take the time to do it right so I will leave them alone. In the mean time, I will put all of the miles on thier loaner truck...
So, I got my truck back today. The computer chip was flashed in accordance with the new programming. My windshield was replaced perfectly. (we'll see if it leaks when it rains) I talked to the body shop manager and he agreed that the paint job was defective from the factory. I am taking it in Monday to begin the process. He said he will keep it for 2-3 days. So far... I have experienced ZERO problems with my dealership. (first time in my life)
Well, I took my truck in yesterday to get the entire right rear fender repainted. The dealership does their own body work, so hopefully it will be perfect when they are done. they told me I should have it back sometime Wednesday.
Also, they gave me a rental car to drive.... I turn in a 04 f150 screw lariat... I get to drive a freaking 04 Chevy Tracker 4x4 My wife laughed so hard when she came home and saw it in the driveway that she almost wrecked. She begged me to stand beside it for a picture.... There was no way I was getting my picture taken next to a GEO... LOL
