I'm new to Trucks, new to Diesels and new to the site. I let some stupid RV salesman talk me into buying a 32 foot travel trailer with my 5.4L EXPEDITION. Well, it didn't take long to figure out that wasn't going to work. At least it was my wife who said "You need to get a truck" during our near-death towing experience. I take delivery tomorrow of an 04 crew cab 250 xl. I got it really stripped down; it's an engine with wheels basically. Other than waiting 1,500 miles and "taking it easy" I'd appreciate any other advice. OH, I'm also considering installing a dvd player in the cab for the kids, anyone try this themselves?
Thanks.
Dvd players are like having a babysitter in your back seat. I had one in my '03 f-350 and now one in my '04. I can hook up to my travel trailer, pop in a movie and don't hear a word until we get where we're going. They don't even realize when we stop at a c-store. Well worth it in my opinion. And may I mention, no fighting either. By the way, welcome to our diesel world and FTE!
I myself have kids and the portable DVD has been great. Word of advice, make sure the volume is adequate. I would suggest spending a little extra and get an overhead model that can have the sound run through the existing stereo (This will be my next expense due to volume problems). Check out www.crutchfield.com or do an internet search. There is a ton of gear out there. Just remember you get what you pay for.

Curiosity, you say volume problems, does that mean it was to loud for those in the front.
My children use my notebook computer to watch DVD's in the back seat. I bought a FM transmitter which broadcasts the sound from the computer over the FM band which I pick-up on the truck radio. That way everyone can hear the sound fine. I bought mine (Sound Feeder FM transmitter ) from the electronics department of my local Fred Meyer. I also found that a simple stereo plug splitter allows the 2 children in the back to both wear headphones so I can listen to whatever I want on the car stereo system.
I to am new to all of this, have 04 F250 psd with 365 miles on it and today it quit on me and would start but could not accelerate nor would it run over 10 minutes so now it is in the shop and will find out tomorrow what the problem is. Hoping it is only a sensor. Would like to enjoy this machine but have a lot to learn and hope to get information from this site and have already found a lot. Will have a lot of questions later. Thanks Wesran
Welcome to FTE. If you can provide as much info as possible there are a lot of folks here that can help. Build date will also help for future reference.
Please advise as to what your dealer says is the problem.
Welcome weran....
I'm confused - which doesn't tke much :-)
but on your other post you said "you just weighed your f150"
is it possible you are in the wrong forum ?
con't of post #21 was informed today that the problem was a faulty fuel injection module which was ordered and will be in tomorrow. When I go to pick it up will see if I can get some help finding the build date. Now as to the question on #23 you are right at the time I posted that I was contimplating the purchase of the F250 psd which I have done and am now a foot, kidding they gave a loaner. but I do see that somebody is on their toes. Thanks and will have thousand questions later. Wesran

Just the opposite. Not loud enough. I went with a lower quality portable DVD player thus the low volume. This is even the case with the headphones. It has a digital out for sound but I havent had the time to pull my stereo out and plugging into the back plus it required an adapter for the stereo. That is the next step before buy another player.
Well raining this AM so have a few minutes to get educated. As you can see from previouse post have a new F250 PSD with 365 miles on it and it is now in the shop to have the fuel injector module replaced. I am led to believe this is not like the old injector pump but from there am completely ignorant so if some one will explain it to me will be thankful. Wes
Well am feeling some better got the truck oput of the shop today and here is the damage control report the best I can make of it: ran all kind of diagnostic test, all ok and then replaced air cleaner assembly, injector driver module(IDM)/fuel injector control module(FICM)and engine charge air cooler am not sure what all this means and the service rep on duty could nopt explain it for me. The service rep I started with left for a funeral so will try for more of an explanation later, had also ask for help to find the engine build date unable to find it so will try to get that from thew other rep when he returns. I thought I had saw a place on this site to get it with the vin#. Has any one had this problem. If what I can gather it is just a electronic failure on the IDM but what about the air cleaner and cooler any one have any ideas? 04 F250PSD w/412 miles now. Is there any thing else I should be looking for besides the rear seal which I have been reading about? Wes

Reason: misspelling
Engine build date can be seen with the hood up and standing right next to the drivers side hood hinge....
look thru the maze onto the drivers side "valve cover" toward the rear of the engine...
and see a white label about 3" x 4" and it will have a date like
04 Apr 13 or some form like that with bar coding by it...
