Machine Shops

Does anyone know of any machine shops around the St. Louis, Columbia, and in-between areas?? The heads are being redone, and I talked to the mechanic last night and he said that they were still at the machine shop in BLUE SPRINGS!! Since I only live about an hour west of STL, that's a LONG way to just take heads to be remachined. I thought I had heard of some around mid-Mo, but I was wondering if anyone new about any that were a lot closer to home.......

Looked in the Columbia/Jefferson City area phonebook, and there doesn't appear to be any machine shops. That can't be right though.

Nowadays, a lot of repair shops will just tell you to buy replacements when it comes to short blocks, long blocks, and heads. It's usually cheaper. It is getting difficult to find the skilled labor. The equipment is also very costly if you don't do a large volume of work. Last two engines I replaced where crate long blocks. A Stock 302 long block is about $1500 bucks(block, complete heads, crank, pistons, timing gears and chain).

Thanks everybody. I'll make sure to bring these points to his attention IF I ever get my truck back. The thought has occurred to me that he made a mistake, but I'll check before I chew him out about anything.

Imadore, do you happen to know what a set of heads for 351w run??

Your best bet would be to contact an autoparts store (Advance, Napa, Oreilly) if you are looking for stock heads. I honestly couldn't tell you what a set runs new. You can get them bare or with the valve train. A good guess would probably be between $400 - $500. Might check Northern Autoparts online.
Stay with the reputable stores.

Checked Northernautoparts.com

Looks like 351W heads can be gotten for less than $300 for each head.
They look to be application specific. Take a look.

look up Bernard (Bernie) Redhage in the phone book, his shop is just a couple miles from New Haven, he is fully equipped to do any type of engine work. He has done a lot of work for us, and we have always been pleased.
