I'm trying to find info on laws regarding pulling two trailers in tandom in the state of Utah. My brother is a sheriff deputy and does not know, nor does his highway patrol friends.
most states require the first trailer to be either a gooseneck or fifth wheel set up, and the second can be gooseneck, fifthwheel, hitch ball, pintle etc. YOu cant tow two hitch ball setups in tandem. I have been suprised by how little the local sheriffs know about trucks.
I am getting ready to possibly do this as well. Moving from CA to AZ. I currently own a F350 and am planning to purchase a gooseneck or fifthwheel flatbed utility trailer, aprox. 20-24' in length. Am considering renting a car hauler trailer to connect to utility trailer so we don't have to drive second car. I'm aware of GVW & GCVW so I don't need help there, but limits on length and general thoughts on doing this would be appreciated.
Just today at a state park in Arkansas I saw a guy with a Crew Cab F-250 pulling a 33' 5th wheeler with a 18'-19' boat on a twin axle trailer behind the 5er. I'm not sure how long it was, but to his credit he bought his truck with a short bed!
My Crew Cab long bed with travel trailer is 52' nose to tail and can be a handful when manuvering on winding roads in traffic. With the lack of turning radius there are some camping spots I can't get into without leaving paint and parts on the trees. I couldn't imagine driving this guy's rig.
I guess I have lost some of my adventuristic nature...
