Hello There Can Somebody Figure This One Out. Have A 78 Ford F-100 With A 302. Old 302 Sent A Rod Right Thru The Side Of Oil Pan. Installed Another 302 Out Of A Another 78 Replaced All Spark Plugs Wire And All Fluids And Both Oil @ Transmission Filters. I Mean I Did The Works New Starter, alternator And Just Picked Up A New Voltage Regulator. But So Far I'm Two For Two Installed A New Starter Reley Unit And Drove Truck For 30 Min. And Then The Truck Die's. And There I Sit With The Starter Reley Blown. The Side Post Is A Pushed Out. Like I Said Twice Now I've Replaced It And Twice It's Went Out. Could It Be The Coil Or What? I'm At A Lose To Understand The Problem. Any Help Would Get Me Out Of The Dog House With Wife. (spent Alot Of Money On A Truck That Don't Run.) You Get The Picture. Thanks All
Big Al
I don't understand, how is the truck dieing from the starter relay going out. The only problem you should have is it won't start. Are you positive that the starter is de-energizing and disingaging. It sounds like you have current constently running through it to cause it to explode, but this will couse the starter to stay running. Your key may not be returning all the way and leaving the starter energized.
Zum,
Do you have a ground from the motor to the cab? If not, get one. My guess is, you already do. I suspect you have a bad ground cable. How does the starter work when you start it cold. Does it lug at all? Or does it start right away? Does your ignition switch stick on the start position? If it does then this could burn the solenoid up but it would also mean the starter would run on, after start up. The starter could be shorted to ground and this could burn up the solenoid but this would run the battery dead while it sat between operations.
Good luck,
