I've been reading about the Cam Position Sensor. Does it effect performance, like some hesitation, etc? My truck stalled a couple of times one day, once at a stop light and then about 4 miles down the road @ 55 mph! Well, it's been about two or three weeks and it hasn't happened since! But, I do notice some hesitation on acceleration from a roll... Any ideas? Its a 1997 F350 Crew PSD w/114k miles on it.
I really noticed the hesitation after I visited the Ford dealership when they changed the oil and fuel filter (they pressure tested the fuel system too). These maintenence items were done BEFORE the day it stalled.
Take it to a shop that has a scanner to check the codes and/or check the whole system out. From what I've seen, when a cam sensor goes out you will be down until it's fixed. It will let you drive in a "limp home mode" but I don't think it will fix itself. At 114,000 miles it's not uncommom to have one go out. Anyone else have any more experience with this?

When the CMP Sensor finally goes out it won't let the truck run at all. Intermittant hesitation is usually the first sign of it going out, but once it's out you're stuck.
Thanks guys! I may just go ahead and buy one just in case. Actually, it seems that the hesitation really happens as the trans shifts into third gear. I wonder if its the torque converter?
We'll find out tomarrow after I hook my 30' Formula to it this weekend for the first time!
